Liquid
Dove.
Unilever wanted the Dove range shown doing what the products actually do. Foam, lather, the natural behaviour of the formula, with the pack still the thing you look at rather than something lost in the mess around it. Foam has a short life. It rises, it slumps, and it does both faster than a set can be built around it. So everything else was built first and the lather went in last. The foam was sculpted around the pack on the day rather than drawn in afterwards, and I kept the key soft and even so the label stayed centred and readable through it.

Gel ribbons smeared, rose petals dropped, and a bottle caught breaking a water surface with the air bubbles still rising. All of it happened in front of the lens. The pale pink and lilac ground is what gives the water an edge to read against, which a flat white ground will not do. The same practical approach runs through the rest of my haircare photography for Unilever, including TRESemme and Nexxus. Set design by Olivia Clifford. Shot in London for Green Park and All Things Hair.
