David M Robinson.
David M Robinson sell pieces whose appeal is the cut, so the set needed to answer the cut rather than decorate around it. A faceted stone photographed against a flat sweep has nothing to talk to. The facets read as glitter and the geometry that took a cutter days disappears. The architecture became an abstract version of the jewellery itself. Cut facets translated into geometric paper shapes and faceted landscapes, angular folded planes and cubes lit soft and broad so the surfaces step from white through to warm grey. The tonal range comes from the folds, not from gels or gradients.

Pendants, drop earrings, a cluster necklace and bangles hang over folded edges and sit on plinth tops, with the chains drawn as thin bright lines across the card. Working this high key means every specular on the stones is one I put there, because the set gives back almost nothing on its own. It is the high key counterpart to the block system I built for Avon, and more diamond photography sits on the jewellery and watches page. Set design and paper architecture: Yvonne Acho.
