Exploration in Flavour - Grapefruit.

Grapefruit isn't one drink, it's several ingredients wearing the same name: juice, zest, syrup, an infusion, a garnish, or the base note holding a serve together. I wanted a series that photographed the flavour itself, not any single drink built from it, so before touching a glass I shot the fruit alone, backlit, until the segments read as structure rather than food. The difficulty was keeping that read once the fruit went into liquid. A slice under flat light reads nothing like one held to a window, and most grapefruit cocktail photography settles for a garnish shot that could be any citrus. I wanted every serve, whatever form the flavour took, to trace back to that first frame, so I carried the same principle into the glass: light from behind or below wherever the liquid or ice would hold it, so colour reads through the drink as it read through the fruit.
