GVJ Refraction.
This one is about cut light. Celebrating light and cut light, and seeing how far colour can be brought to a set through lighting alone. Colour in still life usually arrives as paper, gel or a prop, and all three sit behind the subject rather than around it. So the colour was made in front of the lens. Refractive glass and crystal held at and around the lens throw prismatic caustics, rainbow flare and coloured haze across the frame, with a hard point source doing the spectral fringing. Objects used in camera to distort and infuse colour, and to build tactile landscapes out of nothing but light.
What sits underneath is deliberately plain, the same straight on staging as the paper work, rings on a pale leather textured ground. A strong drop shadow anchors each ring so it stays solid inside the wash instead of dissolving into it, and every frame is graded by where the crystal is held, not afterwards. That approach to gemstone photography carries into the paper and dried flower sets made with the same rings, all on the jewellery and watches page.
