Schweppes Effervescence.
The series celebrates the hero products. Schweppes and effervescence carry an alluring glow and energy as a drink, and the key was to take that and apply it to the visuals, across stills and motion. Every serve is built on a Schweppes hero product, lemonade, tonic and the rest of the range, with a bespoke colour expression behind each one. Made for Schweppes, Coca-Cola, with VMLY&R. A range shot as a set of heroes does not stay a range. Six different serves photographed six different ways stop reading as one product family the moment they sit next to each other.

So I fixed everything except the colour. Same glass, same position, same framing in every frame, with the background as the only variable, each one a fully defocused painterly bokeh field in a different saturated colour. Grapefruit, ginger ale, cucumber tonic, cola, lemon and star anise, lemonade, each gets its own ground. The soft background is what lets the glass stay hard. An edge glow around the rim separates it, and the bubbles and condensation are held sharp against a field with no detail in it at all, so the fizz is the only thing resolving. The same mixer photography system runs across the whole range, and sits with the rest of the drinks and serves work. Shot in London by David Lineton, for VMLY&R. Drinks stylist: Tara Garnell.
