Bubbles.

Bubbles rise, stretch and burst in fractions of a second. Played at normal speed they read as fizz. I directed these takes to follow single bubbles: how one forms, how it travels and what the surface does when it lets go. Light is the constraint, stated flat. Slow motion leaves almost no exposure for each frame, so the set needs lots of powerful lights. High speed bubble film opens up details the eye skips. A bubble injected into liquid, a surface simmering, ice dropping through a rising column. Each take holds one event, framed so its shape can be followed from start to finish.

The edit sets the rhythm: how long each bubble is held and when the next one arrives. The light keeps every edge readable against what sits behind it. Related liquid work is on the Drinks page, including The Bubble and Infusion. Directed by David Lineton. DOP: Ben Marshall. Drinks stylist: Alice Wood.
