Glass

Campari Pour.

A Campari pour is quick and red. It leaves the bottle as one column, meets the glass and breaks into pieces. I directed these takes to follow the liquid as it moves, from first contact to the swirl, and not only the finished drink. Light is the constraint, stated flat. High frame rates leave almost no exposure for each frame, so the set needs lots of powerful lights. High speed pour film lets the camera stay on the points where a pour changes: contact with the glass, the swirl, the column thinning as the bottle tips back. One take uses a speed ramp, fast into slow and back, so the slow part lands on the moment.

The red comes from the drink itself. The cut keeps each pour at the pace its movement asks for, and the light is there to show the shape. More Campari work is in Campari Red, and more liquid film in Over Ice. Directed by David Lineton. DOP: Ben Marshall. Drinks stylist: Alice Wood.
