Sagar.
Sagar make light switches and fine metalwork for high end luxury apartments and interior design. The pieces are built to the standard of a fine piece of jewellery or a watch, and the job was to make them read at that level rather than as fittings. Brushed and polished brass in the same frame want opposite things. Brushed metal needs a raking light to show its grain. Polished metal does not care about the light at all, it only shows what is in front of it. I lit tight and raking in a dark studio and controlled what the polished surfaces could see. The brushed tiles and the pale birch pick up directional sheen along the grain, and the polished butterfly and droplet forms go mirror-bright against that, so the two finishes separate instead of averaging into one metal.
The rest is treated like a jeweller's bench, because that is what it is. Hands working on a piece, overhead layouts of tweezers, loupe, files and dividers on black, and a hand-annotated sketchbook page shot with the same care as the finished object. Deep blacks and long soft shadows throughout, so nothing in the frame is louder than the metal. The same material approach runs through my craft process photography and commissioned product work.
