Schweppes Effervescence, Mixology.
This belongs to the Effervescence series, which celebrates the Schweppes hero products. The key across the series was to take the alluring glow and energy Schweppes has as a drink and apply that to the visuals, across stills and motion. Here that runs in a real bar. A bartender's hands and torso place a garnished tumbler on a dark counter beside a Schweppes bottle, and this is the only drinks set in the archive with a person in it. The person is not the point. Putting someone in frame with a serve creates a competition. A face, or even a whole figure, will take the picture away from the drink every time.
So I cropped him out of it. The frame is a wide cinematic letterbox cut at the shoulder, which keeps the bartender anonymous and holds the eye along the counter line, on the glass, where the shallow focus already sits. The rest is the room. Available bar light with red, green and amber backbar bokeh behind, and the counter left wet so it reflects and gives the bottom of the frame something to do. Nothing is lit to look like a studio. The bartender photography here sits with the main Schweppes Effervescence set and the rest of the drinks and serves work.
