Schweppes Summery Effervescence.
The series celebrates the hero products. The key was to take the glow and energy Schweppes and effervescence have as a drink and apply that to the visuals, across stills and motion. This one continues that story globally, across more flavours of refined cocktails, with the liquid still the hero. The stills captured the hero serve, and the how-tos had to show how it gets made, so the whole thing was built to show a creative process rather than a finished object. Cocktail recipe photography is harder than photographing a serve. The finished drink is one frame and one decision, while the build is a sequence, and each step has to stay legible without dropping out of the world the hero serve lives in.
So I made the process part of the picture instead of a diagram beside it. The highball sits centred with everything around it dissolving into defocused colour bloom, gradient bands and soft flare orbs, and the pours, drops and stirs of the how-to builds happen inside that same surround. Mint, lime, basil, blueberries, grapefruit and strawberry go into the ice so each flavour reads at any scale. The bloom and the flare are in camera. On the motion we ran a bullet time rig for the falling but frozen in time feeling, which gives the edit a pace change against the slower how-to-serve builds. The set stayed up between the hero frames and the build frames, so the recipe and the finished serve are lit as one thing rather than matched to each other afterwards. Drinks stylist: Tara Garnell.
