Starbucks Lavender.
The lavender and matcha limited time offer for Starbucks, through TBWA\London. The set design had to feel drawn in by the lavender itself, so that the flavour is present in the picture and not only on the cup. Tonal lilac on lilac is the difficulty. Once the set, the ingredient and the drink all sit in the same narrow band of colour, nothing separates and the frame goes soft and shapeless. I turned the ingredient into the structure. Real lavender cast inside custom ice cubes, stacked into a tower beside the drinks, more hung from a rig above frame and buds scattered across the surface. Hard directional light gives clean shadow edges, so the ice reads as facets and the tonal set gets its shape from form rather than from colour.

The matcha serve gives the range a second colour to push against, and iced coffee photography for placement means delivering the same build in letterbox and vertical crops rather than one master frame. The rest of the Starbucks seasonal work, including Starbucks Pistachio, sits on the drinks and serves page. Directed by David Lineton. Set design: Olivia Clifford. Drinks stylist: Lola Faura. DOP: Paul Waterworth. Moco: Mr Moco.
