The Balvenie 60 Year Old.
A global campaign for the Balvenie marking 60 years with the malt master David Stewart. I shot and self directed both the stills and the motion. A release like this lives in more than one place. The liquid, the man who was part of making it and the places it comes from all have to belong to one campaign, and none of them are in the same room. So I went to them. Glasgow and Inverness for the supporting distillery photography, handheld and observational on available tungsten and window light, walls of sample bottles behind, the malt master nosing and tasting, exposure held for the highlights on the glass rather than for the space so the whisky keeps its colour.

In London I shot the key visual with Here Design, with Luke Graham as DoP. The decanter backlit on a counter, tasting glasses throwing bokeh across the frame, built and controlled where the Scottish material is deliberately not. Directing it myself is what holds the two halves together. The reportage and the key visual were framed and graded off the same references rather than made by separate units and married up afterwards. Art direction: Here Design. DoP: Luke Graham.
